Assam: Himanta Biswa Sarma Inspects Potato Godown 'Containment Zone' in Changsari

Guwahati:

Assam Finance and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday inspected a potato godown area in Guwahati's Changsari area which has been declared as a containment zone following the discovery that a Covid-19 patient, the first from Fancy Bazar, has been there recently.

Sarma, who was accompanied by Minister Pijush Hazarika and Kamrup (M) DC Bishwajit Pegu to the site, shared pictures and informed via Twitter that he had inspected the area to ensure that "appropriate restrictions are in place".

Fancy Bazar, it may be recalled, was hit by the Covid-19, after a worker from Azamgarh in UP tested positive on Monday. The 50-year-old man was staying at a city hotel, Rajkamal, when he was tested positive. Subsequently, the potato godown located at Changsari in lower Assam's Kamrup district, where the worker had visited recently, was also declared a containment zone.

Guwahati Police Commissioner Munna Prasad Gupta, talking to The Sentinel Digital, said, "We sealed off the area as soon as it came to light that the first Covid-19 positive patient in Fancy Bazar had a contact history in the location. Subsequently, we have also declared 5 other areas as containment zones and they have been sealed off."

The Assam Government, meanwhile, has reported 86 coronavirus infections and 2 deaths. 40 people have been discharged after treatment, while 43 cases are active. Additionally, 1 coronavirus patient from Bihar has been migrated outside the state.
