Assam: Hojai DC Orders Deposit of Licensed Arms Ahead of Panchayat Polls

Hojai: In view of the upcoming Panchayat elections, the Office of the District Commissioner, Srimanta Sankardev, Hojai District, has issued an order imposing restrictions on the possession of arms during the notified election period.

The order, issued on Thursday, directs all licensed arms holders to deposit their arms at their respective police stations without fail. The deposited arms will be returned to the license holders by the concerned police stations after the declaration of the election results, upon submission of their receipts.

The order further states that non-compliance by any license holder will lead to legal action under the provisions of the Arms Act, 1959, including the cancellation of the license.

Notably, Panchayat elections in Assam's 27 districts will be conducted in two phases on May 2 and May 7, with the votes being counted on May 11.
