Assam Home Guard's Selfless & Honest Act Led to Recovery of Drugs Worth Rs 12 Cr

GUWAHATI: In a major blow to the drug cartels, an Assam police man home guard, Borsing Bay's selfless and honest act, led to the recovery of crystal meth or ice, a high-quality and potent stimulant drug, worth Rs 12 crore from a Guwahati-bound 'night super' bus at a check-gate under Dillai police station in Karbi Anglong district on Monday night.

Reportedly, the home guard was offered a huge bribe amount by the accused in return for letting them go free, however, he refused and led to the seizure.

Taking to the Twitter handle Assam DGP wrote, "Because of which drugs worth Rs.12 crores have been taken off the market. Sri Bay for this selfless and honest act, will be rewarded with an amount of Rs. One Lakh.

Salute to HomeGaurd Bay!"

Further, two women from Tamil Nadu and one man from Manipur are arrested with the seized drugs.

According to sources, during regular 'naka' checking, the drugs were recovered from a secret chamber of the night superbus (bearing registration number MN06B-0511). "The bus originated in Moreh in Manipur," said the sources.

The drugs were meant to be headed to the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu. "Two women from Tamil Nadu – Lashmi D and Punjabhiram – and the bus driver from Manipur, Khoiram Basanta Singha, have been apprehended in this connection," police sources said, adding, "These are mere couriers. The biggest challenge before us is to identify their handlers, expose the persons behind this inter-state and international drug racket, and arrest them."
