Assam: IIT Guwahati Launches Groundbreaking Drone Technology Training for Armed Forces Personnel

GUWAHATI: In a groundbreaking move, the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT Guwahati) has introduced an innovative three-month Drone Technology training program tailored for Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) and Other Ranks Officers (OR). Aimed at modernizing armed forces operations, this initiative equips participants with advanced drone skills, paving the way for potential post-retirement careers in the burgeoning drone technology sector.

The comprehensive program, facilitated by key departments and centers, including the Centre for Drone Technology, takes a holistic approach by combining theoretical knowledge with practical applications. With a cohort of 30 participants representing various branches of the armed forces, the curriculum covers a spectrum of subjects, encompassing Drone Technology, Electrical, Electronics & Mechanical Engineering, and Robotics. Participants engage in hands-on training, involving Flight Simulator exercises, Basic Assembly, Risk Assessment & Analysis, and Drone Equipment Maintenance.

Highlighting the program's importance, Brigadier Rajeev Kapur emphasizes its role in facilitating a seamless transition for armed forces personnel. The training provides valuable insights into the dynamics of Drone Technology and its versatile applications in the civil domain. The emphasis on practical training ensures that participants not only grasp theoretical concepts but also gain proficiency in the practical aspects crucial for effective drone operations.

This pioneering initiative marks the initiation of a series of upskilling Officer Courses by IIT Guwahati. The overarching goal is to enhance the skill sets of armed forces personnel, opening new career avenues in emerging technologies. By focusing on areas such as drone technology, IIT Guwahati is at the forefront of empowering armed forces personnel to adapt to and excel in the dynamic landscape of modern technology.

As drones continue to play an increasingly pivotal role in various sectors, including surveillance, logistics, and disaster management, the armed forces' integration of such technology is not only forward-thinking but also strategically crucial. IIT Guwahati's initiative not only aligns with the evolving needs of armed forces operations but also positions its participants to be leaders in the rapidly growing drone technology sector.
