Silchar: Expressing concern over the government’s attempted promotion of ‘mixopathy,’ Dr. Dilip Vanusali, National President of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), urged the medical fraternity to stand united in service to the nation. Addressing the 37th biannual state conference of the IMA’s Assam unit, organized by its Silchar chapter on Saturday evening, Dr. Vanusali highlighted the increasing instances of violence against doctors at their workplaces across the country. He stressed that it was high time for the fraternity to strengthen the association to safeguard their rights and safety.

Referring to the recent tragic incident at R.G. Kar Medical College in Kolkata, where a junior doctor was brutally raped and murdered during her duty hours, Dr. Vanusali commended the common people who rallied in support of the agitating doctors and demanded justice for the victim.

The conference, titled ‘Medimeet 25’ and presided over by Assam IMA President Dr. Arunima Goswami, was attended by leading doctors from across the state. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Principal of Silchar Medical College, emphasized that doctors, while serving in challenging conditions, often become easy targets for violence. He reiterated that strengthening the IMA could help protect the medical fraternity.

Other speakers at the event included IMA Secretary Dr. Sharbari Dutta, State General Secretary Dr. Atul Kalita, and newly elected State President Dr. Pranab Kumar Sarma. Dr. Kalita noted that the Assam unit of the IMA currently has 50 units with more than 5,000 registered doctors as members.
