BAKSA: In a despicable act, a 35-year-old Imam has been arrested on the charge of raping a 16-year-old girl in Otagaon, Moirajhar, which falls under the jurisdiction of Goreswar Police Station in Assam's Baksa district. The accused, Jahangir Alam of Kolgachia, was acting as an Imam and a madrasa teacher for the last five years.
It is reported that Alam used his position of trust and authority to commit the said crime on the premises of the madrasa. After the incident, the family of the victim immediately lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against him, and the Goreswar police acted quickly, arresting Alam soon after.
As per reports, the accused had a disturbing record of improper conduct, and his behavior around minor girls was of concern. The community is now struggling to understand the ramifications of this case, as it points to the vulnerability of young people in schools and religious institutions.
The police are still investigating the incident, gathering statements and evidence to make a solid case against Alam. Law enforcement agencies have asked people to be on the lookout and report anything suspicious, as it is essential that children be protected from exploitation.
