Guwahati: Amid the scorching heat in the entire Northeastern states, there has been a sigh of relief, as India Meteorological Department (IMD), has predicted rainfall in Assam and Meghalaya from 13th August to 15th August.

''Fairly widespread/widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorm/lightning very likely over Gangetic West Bengal on 14th; Jharkhand on 11th, 13th & 14th; Odisha on 11th & 12th; Arunachal Pradesh on 13th & 14th; Assam & Meghalaya during 13th -15th and over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura during 12th-15th August 2022,'' an official statement from IMD said.

It further added that isolated very heavy rainfall was also likely over Odisha on 13th, 14th, and Gangetic West Bengal on 11th August 2022.

It also predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy falls occurring at isolated places over Madhya Maharashtra, South Interior Karnataka, and West Madhya Pradesh; heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Konkan & Goa, Gangetic West Bengal, East Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Coastal Karnataka, and East Madhya Pradesh and heavy rainfall at isolated places over Odisha, Chhattisgarh, North Interior Karnataka, and Gujarat State.

Last time in May this year, Northeast India covering Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sikkim, and Nagaland witnessed rainfall.

Even though there was very little improvement in the flood-causing disaster in Assam, there were scattered showers wetting the state thoroughly for a constant period that week.

At that time, as per the IMD, Assam, as well as Meghalaya, had recorded large rainfall comprising 737.9 mm and 1445.1 mm respectively. While Sikkim and Manipur had also registered extensive showers containing 788.7 mm and 407.2 mm in particular. Simultaneously, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh also received normal rainfall whereas Tripura and Mizoram witnessed a deficit in rainfall.
