Assam in top 3 among states in Covid-19 recovery rate: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Guwahati: Assam Finance and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today said that the state has been able to perform exceptionally well when it comes to treating Covid-19 positive patients, and the recovery rate in the state, having now reached a robust 63.3%, is among the top 3 states in India.

Addressing the media here today, the Minister said only a couple of other states supersede Assam when it comes to the recovery rate. "It would not be wrong to say that Assam is in the top 3 when it comes to the number of recoveries, although we cannot say what will happen in the future", he said, adding, "In Kerala, the recovery rate is 52%, the recovery rate in West Bengal is 59.50%, in Maharashtra it is 49.78%, in Tamil Nadu it is 55.16%, in Delhi it is 55.26%, and in Gujarat it is 70%. Assam is not far behind Gujarat with 63.3%."

Sarma further went on to add that with mortality of .16%, Assam's mortality rate is one of the lowest in the country. "In comparison to the other states of India, Assam is performing well in both these arenas, although we cannot say what will happen in the times to come", Sarma added.

Assam has so far reported cases 5,586 cases of the Covid-19 so far, out of which 2,190 cases are active. Although 9 deaths have been confirmed officially, Biswa Sarma said that the number is expected to rise in the evening. "A 10th casualty will occur in the evening. We are waiting for a confirmation, but the number of casualties in Assam can tentatively be counted as 10", he told media.

It needs mention here that India has over 4.25 lakh coronavirus cases, recording the biggest single-day jump of 445 deaths. The rise in cases has taken the country's tally to 4,25,282 while the death count rose to 13,699, according to the Union Health Ministry data this morning. 14,821 fresh cases were reported in the last 24 hours. However, there has been a steady improvement in the recovery rate with 55.77 percent of the Covid-19 patients having recovered so far.
