MARGHERITA: International Women’s Day was celebrated today with great enthusiasm in various parts of Margherita such as Ketetong, New Colony Margherita, Sattriya Kala Kshetra Kendra Margherita, Ledo College, and Jagun.
Greater Bargolai Women Society organized International Women’s Day at Chow Cheng Ren Field located at New Colony Margherita which began with various activities including flag hoisting, tribute to martyrs, Diha Naam group songs, along with various games and competitions held among the present women.
An open session was held which was presided by Podumi Konwar, President of the organizing committee where Margherita College Associate Professor Runjun Saikia, noted poetess of Margherita Parul Saikia, Margherita Kidzee Sunshine High School Principal Papori Gogoi, retired headmistress of 1 number Lazum LP School Margherita Ranju Chetia, along with women from the Greater Margherita region, were present.
DIBRUGARH: On the occasion of the International Women’s Day (IWD), the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) in collaboration with the CWSD, ACTA Women’s Cell, Gender Champions Club, and MDKGSU of the MDKG College conducted a series of programmes including essay competition, poster making competition, film show, and a talk.
The topic of the essay competition was ‘Accelerating Women’s Inclusion for a Developed World.’ A good number of students participated and the winner of the competition was Isha Sonowal, a student of 4th semester of the Department of Education.
On March 7, a poster-making competition was organized where around 30 students participated. The theme of the poster making competition was ‘New Feminist Ideas.’ The winner of the competition was Gitashree Kalita, a student of 4th semester of the Sanskrit department.
Thereafter, the Gender Champions Club led by Dr Bornali Nath Dowerah, the Nodal Officer, hosted a film show ‘Rainbow Speaks’ which was followed by a lively interaction. An inspiring deliberation was shared by Shrutimala Bharali and Dr M Bagchi.
On March 8, Uddipana 2025, the wall magazine of the ICC MDKG College was inaugurated by Dr Anup Jyoti Bharali, Principal of the college. The students and faculty had contributed writings to the magazine and it had been prepared under the initiative of Manisha Khatowal, the Vice-President of MDKGSU and under the supervision of Shrutimala Bharali, Assistant Professor and Member of ICC. Diya Dutta, a student of the Department of Political Science gave a short speech on the theme IWD 2025.
The star attraction of the IWD celebration in the college was a talk by Dr Madhumita Purkayastha, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of English and Convenor of CWSD of DHSK College. Dr AJ Bharali, Principal of the college, in his message on this special occasion, stressed on more proactive measures to expedite women empowerment and emancipation.
