GUWAHATI: The Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell has initiated an investigation into an alleged scam concerning appointments in Assam’s tourism department during the 2010-11 period when Rakibul Hussain was the tourism minister.

The investigation follows a complaint filed by a government employee, alleging illegal appointments in the department. Those believed to have received these appointments will be questioned as part of the probe.

This issue, which had been pending in the Gauhati High Court for some time, has seen the court recognizing certain irregularities in the recruitment process.

Rakibul Hussain, who is currently the Member of Parliament from Dhubri, has come under scrutiny due to his involvement in the alleged scam, with over ten appointments reportedly made unlawfully during his tenure as the tourism minister.

As part of the ongoing investigation, all individuals suspected of securing jobs illegally will be asked to submit their documents to the vigilance cell.

The investigation aims to uncover the full extent of the irregularities and hold those responsible accountable. With the Chief Minister’s vigilance team actively pursuing the case, further developments regarding the alleged scam are expected to emerge.
