
KOKRAJHAR: A complaint was received at the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam, alleging that Nekibuz Zaman, junior engineer of the office of the Fakiragram Municipal Board, Kokrajhar, had demanded Rs. 15,000 as a bribe from the complainant in lieu of giving permission for renovation/construction works of a commercial building (shop) of the complainant.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached this Directorate to take necessary legal action against the above-mentioned public servant. Accordingly, a trap was laid yesterday by a team from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam, at the office of the Fakiragram Municipal Board, Kokrajhar.
Nekibuz Zaman, junior engineer, was caught red-handed immediately after he accepted Rs. 10,000 as part of the demanded bribe from the complainant. The tainted bribe money has been recovered from his possession and has been seized accordingly in the presence of independent witnesses.
On finding sufficient evidence against the accused public servant, he has been arrested by the team of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam. In this connection, a case has been registered in ACB Police Station on 26/03/2025 vide ACB P.S. Case No. 29/2025 under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018). Necessary legal follow-up actions are underway.
