DIPHU: Karbi Anglong paid tribute to late Semson Sing Ingti, a pioneering leader who fought for the creation of a separate administrative setup for the region. Ingti was the first general secretary of Karbi Adorbar and played a crucial role in demanding the creation of the United Mikir and North Cachar Hills district in 1947, which is now Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong, and Dima Hasao districts.

The Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) organized a 77th Death Anniversary of Semson Sing Ingti commemoration program at Old Semson Sing Ingti Memorial Park, which included a prayer meeting and floral tributes from dignitaries like Chief Executive Member Tuliram Ronghang, Chairman Raju Tisso, and Deputy Chairman Avijit Kro, EMs, MACs, and MLAs. In various institutions, social organizations, and public places, the day was observed by recalling the life and works of the late Ingti.

CEM Ronghang, in his speech, stated that the life and works of late Ingti cannot be described in a few lines. Late Ingti sacrificed the job of Inspector of Schools (IS) to form Karbi Adorbar (KA), which led to the movement for the creation of a separate administrative set-up of United Mikir and North Cachar Hills district.

He is one of the great leaders of the Karbi community, who had contributed immensely towards social upliftment and reforms, ultimately demanding the creation of the United Mikir and North Cachar Hills district, the movement which started in 1947. The CEM expressed and stated that late Sarsing Teron (Langkung Habe) and late Semson Sing Ingti were the first president and general secretary of Karbi Adorbar, respectively.

“The Karbi Adorbar was formed in 1946, and after two years, he faced his untimely death. Though he was short-lived, and within a span of two years in Karbi Adorbar his works were immense. Through the leadership of late Ingti, the Karbi Adorbar submitted a memorandum to the Governor of Assam at Mohongdijua and at Lanka and Lumding and met the officials on various occasions. I pray to the almighty God to shower abundant blessings with good health and prosperity on the family members and relatives of late Ingti, as due to his selfless sacrifice, we could have our land to live,” the CEM said.
