PATHSALA: Kohinoor Theatre, one of the most popular mobile theatre groups in Assam, completed 50 years and celebrated the occasion with a big event in Pathsala, known as the cultural heart of Assam’s mobile theatre scene.

The theatre group was started in 1976 by Ratan Lahkar. Over the years, Kohinoor Theatre has entertained people with powerful Assamese plays, mythological stories, and even stage versions of international hits like Titanic and Jurassic Park. Their creative use of technology and strong storytelling made them stand out.

After the passing of Ratan Lahkar, his son Tapan Lahkar took over the theatre. Tapan thanked the audience for their continued support and said that the team would keep working to promote Assamese culture through theatre. The celebration also remembered legends like Achyut Lahkar and Ratan Lahkar, making it clear once again why Pathsala is called the heart of Assam’s mobile theatre tradition.
