MANGALDAI: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Udalguri organized a daylong training cum awareness programme on double cropping at village Balipara in Udalguri district on Friday. The programme was aimed at increasing the cropping intensity in the district, as most of the land is under single-crop cultivation. Assistant General Manager of NABARD, Udalguri and Darrang district Gaurav Bhattacharya, in the presence of Senior Scientist and Head Dr. Diganta Sarma and Subject Expert of KVK Udalguri Priyanka Bora, inaugurated the program with the participation of more than 40 rural farmers. Senior Scientist & Head of KVK Dr. Diganta Sarma elaborated on the aim and objective of the programme and emphasized on double cropping in rice-fallow areas, which is a collaborative initiative of Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat; the Department of Agriculture, Government of Assam; and NABARD, and is implemented through Krishi Vigyan Kendra Udalguri to increase the farmers income per year from a single piece of land. AGM, NABARD Gaurav Bhattacharya, in his speech, requested the participating farmers to go for double cropping for full utilization of their cultivated land and explain the financial facility availability through different government schemes. Earlier, the official team, along with farmers, visited the already demonstrated double cropping area where the paddy-followed-by-toria practice is going on.
