GAURISAGAR: There is a serious threat to the embankment of the Jhanji River which is connected to the link road from NH37 Jamuguri to Tamulichiga constructed by Sivasagar PWD (now Loka Nirman) Department following illegal cutting of land near the embankment allegedly by some land mafia. It is also alleged that the land mafia has uprooted the porcupine installed by the Water Resources Department in the riverbed to prevent erosion in the area. Notably, the Forest Department as well as the Water Resource Department of Sivasagar district are still silent on the matter.  It remains to be seen what action the concerned departments take on this sensitive issue during the rainy season.
