NAGAON: A conflict intensified within the Nagaon District Drug Dealers’ Association over the leadership. The district unit of the association launched a free ambulance service recently, which led to internal dispute.
As per reports, due to the internal dispute, an emergency executive meeting was convened under the chairmanship of the district President of the association, Jiban Bonik, at a roadside sophisticated restaurant located at Nagaon Borghat bypass on Thursday last, where the General Secretary of the district unit, Simanta Saikia, was sidelined and tactfully relieved of his duties. The incumbent general secretary of the association, Simanta Saikia, termed the decision as illegal and alleged a deep conspiracy against him. Significantly, the news of Saikia’s removal sparked reactions from various organizations in Nagaon.
Several organizations criticized the district President of the association, Jiban Bonik, calling it a conspiracy by outsiders to undermine local business interests. Organizations like the district units of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba-Chatra Parishad, All Assam Students’ Union, Krishak Mukti Sangram Somitee, and others demanded Simanta Saikia to be reinstated to his position within 24 hours.
They however warned of dire consequences if their demands would not be fulfilled, stating that outsiders would not be allowed to dominate the local businessmen in Assam.
