GUWAHATI: As per the latest report of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), several parts of NE states are likely to witness moderate rainfall and thundershowers from 21st of February to 23rd February.

On the other hand, it has been predicted that Arunachal Pradesh will witness heavy rainfalls on 21st and 22nd February. For approximately five days, the state of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Manipur are likely to address scattered rainfall. However, drought will persist in the state of Karnataka.

While Assam and Meghalaya are predicted to address heavy storms with rainfall, Sikkim and West Bengal will also witness the same weather condition for the next three days.

On 8th of February, Guwahati witnessed an extreme deterioration in air quality index in several areas. The prime cause behind this is due to the ongoing construction activity and lack of rainfall. There was severe levels of smog and high intensity pollution leading to low visibility and burning eyes. The air outside is evidently very toxic for the people as it affects the respiratory system, leading to higher risk of respiratory infections and diseases like asthma and lung infections.

Additionally, the fluctuations in weather have accumulated the pollutants in the air, making the scenario worst in Guwahati. Health experts have warned on hazardous consequences as a result and have appealed the citizens to stay indoors as much as possible.

Doctors have suggested all the people to use a mask and stay inside their homes, specifically when the pollution level rises up. In order to combat the issue, Assam State Disaster Management Authority has laid off a series of do’s and don’ts for the general public.
