Guwahati: Amid the onset of raging floods in several Assam districts, the state is likely to receive heavy rainfall for next 5 days as predicted by Regional Meteorological Centre in Guwahati.

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Assam is likely to witness fairly widespread to widespread rainfall, along with isolated heavy to very heavy showers, for the next 5 days. Isolated heavy to very heavy falls on June 28 and isolated heavy falls on June 29, have also been predicted. Assam and Meghalaya are expected to be impacted in most places with isolated heavy to very heavy and extremely heavy falls till June 30.

Even as the number of flood-affected persons in Assam rose to 2,52,661 on Friday, one more person was killed due to drowning in Upper Assam, Dibrugarh district. Dhemaji has emerged as the district that has been affected worst in this spate of floods, as 88,269 people are feeling the wrath of the waters.

According to the daily bulletin issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the effect of the flood is now being felt in 704 villages across the 16 districts of Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Udalguri, Darrang, Baksa, Nalbari, Kokrajhar, Barpeta, Nagaon, Golaghat, Jorhat, Majuli, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, and Tinsukia.
