DHEKIAJULI: The 15th National Voters’ Day was celebrated with great fervour at Lokanayak Omeo Kumar Das (LOKD) College, Dhekiajuli, marking the 75 years journey of the Election Commission of India. The event, jointly organized by the college’s NCC unit, the Department of Political Science, and the NSS, aimed to honour the democratic spirit of India and emphasize the significance of voting in a democracy like in India.
The program commenced with an enlightening address by Baby Paul, Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science, who highlighted the objectives and importance of National Voters’ Day. She urged the gathering to actively participate in the electoral process, underscoring the fundamental role of voting in strengthening democracy.
The chief guest of the occasion, Dhekiajuli CDC Dyutiva Borah, ACS, led the audience in taking the Voters’ Day pledge, reaffirming their commitment to uphold democratic values. The programme witnessed the participation of several dignitaries, including Dr Jogendra Saikia, President of the Governing Body of LOKD College, and Dr Sukdev Adhikari, Principal of LOKD College.
The event was further enriched by the presence of ANO Captain Dr Jyotshna Baruah, ANO Lt Dr Pitambar Sedai, NSS Program Officer Prasanta Boro, and esteemed faculty members, including Dr Manuranjan Baruah, HoD Political Science, Dr Hari Prasad Baruah, HoD Assamese, Bikash Baruah, HoD Commerce, Saiful Islam, Assistant Professor of Mathematics, and Dr Sumi Borah, Assistant Professor of English.
The programme saw enthusiastic participation from NCC cadets, NSS volunteers, students, and faculty members. It served as a platform to instill a sense of responsibility among the youth and encourage them to actively participate in the democratic process.
The celebration concluded with a collective resolve to uphold the democratic ideals of the nation, marking a significant step towards empowering voters and strengthening India’s democracy.
