DHEKIAJULI: Lokanayak Omeo Kumar Das College launched its much-anticipated College Week celebration today with a vibrant five-day programme packed with cultural pride and social awareness
The inaugural ceremony began at 10 AM with the ceremonial flag hoisting by the college’s Principal Dr Sukdev Adhikari, marking the formal commencement of the festivities. The event was followed by a solemn memorial tribute led by the President of the College Governing Body, paying homage to the founders and contributors to the institution’s legacy. A symbolic moment of unity and inspiration was captured when Kukil Bharali and Konak Deka lit the Olympic flame, signalling the spirit of sportsmanship and cultural excellence.
By 11 AM, the college premises transformed into a canvas of colours and traditions as a grand cultural procession marched through the campus. Students adorned in traditional attire proudly represented the diverse ethnic communities of Assam, showcasing folk music, dance, and customs that echo the state’s rich heritage. The procession also carried a powerful social message, with students holding banners and placards promoting anti-corruption, anti-child marriage, and anti-superstition causes reflecting the college’s commitment to nurturing socially responsible citizens.
The celebration continued into the afternoon, as the clock struck 1 PM, with the commencement of various sports and cultural competitions. Students enthusiastically participated in events that not only tested their skills and talents but also fostered unity, creativity, and healthy competition.
The College Week promises a series of engaging events in the coming days, with the institution setting a fine example of blending tradition, awareness, and youth dynamism under one festive umbrella.
