Assam Loses Eminent Writer, Journalist Homen Borgohain, He was 89
Guwahati: In very sad news, Assam lost one of its eminent writer and journalist, Homen Borgohain. He was 89 years old.
According to his family members, Borgohain had collapsed in his bed at around 3AM on Wednesday morning in his residence at Hengarabari Housing Colony. He was rushed to the nearby GNRC Hospital where he passed away at around 7AM. He has tested COVID negative according to the tests done post his death.
The prominent writer had just returned home after recovering from COVID. He was admitted to the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital, Guwahati.
His death has been condoled by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswas Sarma and said it is a personal loss for the CM as he was like a 'guardian' for him.
Assam Education Minister Dr Ranuj Pegu is overseeing the arrangements for the last rites of Borgohain.
His last rites would be performed with full state honours. The last rites would be performed at the Nabagraha crematorium in Silpukhuri area of Guwahati.
Borgohain was serving as the Editor in Chief of the Assamese daily Niyomiya Barta published from Guwahati, a Pride East Entertainment Group's publication.
Borgohain was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1978 for his novel Pita Putra. He has authored several novels, wrote poetry and several short stories. He was also the President of Assam Sahitya Sabha. Some of his popular works include Atmaanusandhan and Dhumuha aru Ramdhenu.
