DIGBOI: A personal luxury vehicle Tata Safari bearing registration number AS 23 AD 3626 suddenly burst into flames and caught huge fire here at AOD New Market parking place near Digboi Refinery.

The vehicle reportedly owned by Ranjan Kumar Konwar of Digboi Itabhata area in Tinsukia district was parked in the market area at a radius of just around 150 meters from Digboi Refinery -a highly hazardous oil installation.

The driver of the vehicle Bhardwaj Konwar had just landed into a nearby shop leaving the vehicle in start-up mode while the four wheeler caught a massive fire gradually. The incident prompted a swift response from emergency services from AOD with fire fighting teams trying to contain the fire initially thus preventing further damage to life and property.

Witnesses reported that enough sensetions gripped the market goers fearing large scale disasters due to the vulnerability of the site. However, the firefighters quickly arrived at the scene and extinguished the blaze before it could spread to nearby structures or storage tanks. Customers who are in a panic state said that the AOD administration should seriously reevaluate the approved parking spots at different locations across the refinery.
