
SILCHAR: A campus worker at Assam University, Silchar, was arrested yesterday for allegedly molesting a 14-year-old Adivasi girl. The accused identified as 57-year-old Farukh Ahmed reportedly molested the minor girl inside the Law Department of Assam University on January 31.
Reports indicate that the victim, a relative of a university housekeeping staff member, was assaulted inside the department. Following her complaint, an FIR was filed at Dwarbond Police Station under the POCSO Act.
With help from university authorities, the police found and arrested the accused. Since the case is sensitive and could affect different communities, officials are keeping a close watch on the investigation.
Meanwhile, a shocking incident of attempted molestation of a 13-year-old girl was reported in the Bhupendra Nagar area under the Noonmati Police Station in Guwahati. According to the complaint filed by the victim’s father, their neighbour Krishna Roy took advantage of the absence of anyone at home and entered their house, where he attempted to molest the minor girl.
The accused, Krishna Roy, allegedly grabbed the girl’s hand and tried to pull her. However, the victim's father who was returning home, caught Krishna red-handed and raised an alarm, shouting “thief, thief.” Krishna attempted to flee but fell from the stairs, injuring his left leg.
The police were informed, and Krishna was taken to the Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) for treatment. The victim’s father filed a complaint at the Noonmati police station, while Krishna’s father also filed a counter-complaint alleging that his son was beaten up, leading to his leg injury.
