SRIBHUMI: Nilambazar Police apprehended a 50-year-old man identified as Haris Uddin, in connection with an alleged attempted sexual assault on a minor girl in the Dasgram area of Assam's Sribhumi on April 3. According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Partha Pratim Das, the accused reportedly entered the victim's home with the intent to commit the heinous crime, taking advantage of the house being vacant at the time.

The victim, a Hindu girl, was allegedly attacked by Uddin, who is identified as a Muslim man. Following the incident, law enforcement acted quickly upon receiving initial reports, leading to the suspect's arrest and the initiation of a formal investigation. The minor has been taken to a medical facility for examination and treatment.

The top cop noted that Uddin fled the scene upon sensing the approach of the victim's family members. The girl is currently recovering and has undergone the necessary medical assessments.

This incident has heightened concerns regarding community safety, particularly in light of a separate sexual harassment case reported on a public bus yesterday. In response, authorities are closely monitoring the situation to prevent any potential disturbances, especially given the religious affiliations of those involved. Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySP) have been deployed to the area to maintain order and ensure that all parties connected to the incident are held accountable.
