GUWAHATI: A man was arrested by Tezpur police on Sunday after he was caught making an attempt to take the High School Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) conducted by the Assam Education Board by impersonating his wife.
The arrested individual has been identified as Sadaq Ali, who works as a Political Science teacher at Vallabh Bhai Patel Higher Secondary School in Dalgaon. Allegedly, the accused had registered his wife for the test with the intention to take the test on behalf of his wife.
However, his plans were foiled after a teacher identified him as the husband of "Sajida Ali" in the examination hall at Tezpur Government Higher Secondary Girls' Multipurpose School and resulted in his arrest by the Tezpur Police.
Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu addressed the incident in a post on X and said, "A proxy candidate incident was reported at Government Girls’ High School, where Sadek Ali, a teacher at Vallabhbhai Patel HS School, Dalgaon, attempted to appear for the TET cum Recruitment exam today using fraudulent documents under the name Sajid Ali. Sadek Ali had applied twice with two identities: one as Sadek Ali (Male) and another as Sajid Ali (Female). He used Sajid’s fake ID and admit card to assist his wife, Sajida Begum, as Sajid’s seat was adjacent to hers. Sadek Ali was apprehended before appearing for the exam, and the police have registered a case."
An investigation has been launched by the police in this matter.
