MANGALDAI: Mangaldai girl Anwesha Goswami has topped the Higher Secondary (Science) examination in Sonitpur district and has been nominated for the Nirmal Saikia Memorial Academic Excellence Award 2025.

It may be mentioned that, in memory of the late Nirmal Chandra Saikia—a retired Principal of Jamuguri Higher Secondary School in Sonitpur district and an esteemed educator who passed away in 2020—his family has been conferring the Nirmal Chandra Saikia Memorial Academic Excellence Award annually since 2021. The award is given to the student securing the highest marks in the Science stream of the Higher Secondary final examination in Sonitpur district.

This year, the award will be conferred on Anwesha Goswami, a meritorious student of Tezpur Science Academy, who secured the highest marks in the Science stream in Sonitpur district in the Higher Secondary final examination. Anwesha scored an aggregate of 463 marks (92.6%), with letter marks in all subjects, making her the top scorer in the district. She had earlier appeared for the High School Leaving Certificate examination from Mangaldai Kendriya Vidyalaya, securing 91% marks.

A resident of Ward No. 1, Mangaldai town, Anwesha is the daughter of journalist and General Secretary of the Mangaldai Media Circle, Mayukh Goswami, and Purnima Goswami. She is also the great-granddaughter of eminent freedom fighter Narendra Nath Goswami of Bihaguri in Sonitpur district, and the granddaughter of the late Professor Khargeswar Goswami of Mangaldai College.
