BONGAIGAON: A VDP meeting was held today at Manikpur Police Station in Bongaigaon, attended by the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Manikpur PS, the COVDO, VDP Secretary, and Presidents. During the meeting, all VDP members were sensitized on various critical issues, including cattle theft, drug-related activities, and child exploitation.

The purpose of the meeting was to raise awareness and encourage the VDP members to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities in their communities.

Recently, a team led by the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Manikpur Police Station and the In-Charge (IC) of Gerukabari Police Post, under the supervision of the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy SP), seized suspected drugs from Shahjamal Bania at the Delhi Punjab Dhaba in Bongaigaon. The authorities recovered 58.63 grams of suspected opium and 3.78 grams of suspected heroin from his possession.

In a separate operation, Bongaigaon Police recovered 9.33 grams of heroin from an e-rickshaw driven by Rakesh Hussain. Assam’s Special Task Force (STF) also seized 600 grams of heroin worth Rs 4 crore, smuggled from Mizoram in a truck. Investigations are ongoing to identify the networks behind these drug operations.

In another operation in North Salmara, Rofikul Islam was arrested with 1.209 kg of opium. The Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of North Salmara, along with teams from Abhayapuri and Jogighopa police stations, conducted a joint operation that intercepted the narcotics.

Meanwhile, Golaghat Police seized 74.79 grams of heroin and Rs 65,330 in cash during a raid in Dergaon, arresting one drug peddler. Legal proceedings are underway in all cases as investigations continue to trace the source of the drugs and their larger network.
