GANGTOK: In a deeply concerning trend, Sikkim has reported four suicide cases reported in Sikkim in a single day, including a 13-year-old boy. Suicide cases continue to rise in Sikkim, with incidents being reported almost daily. The victims, from different age groups and backgrounds, included students, working professionals, and elderly individuals.

Four separate suicide cases were recorded across different locations in the state on February 14, highlighting the growing concern over mental health issues. According to police reports, three individuals ended their lives by hanging, while one person jumped into a river from a bridge. Among the deceased are a 13-year-old boy and a 71-year-old elderly man.

As per police sources, a 38-year-old man from Upper Mamring in Namchi district was found dead by hanging. Similarly, in Geyzing, West Sikkim, a 13-year-old boy was discovered hanging from a tree. In another incident, a 71-year-old man reportedly jumped off the Rothak bridge under the Soreong district’s Nayabazar police station.

Additionally, a 21-year-old housewife from Chungthang, Pegong, in North Sikkim, was found dead by hanging. The increasing number of suicides in the state has raised concerns, urging authorities and mental health advocates to address the growing crisis.

While investigations are underway, preliminary findings indicate that depression, financial struggles, family problems, and social isolation may have played significant roles in these deaths.
