SIVASAGAR: A massive explosion occurred in Singhaduwar, Sivasagar, at an illegal crude oil warehouse, revealing a large-scale illegal operation. The blast took place inside a dumper where a secret chamber was being installed to store crude oil.

Police arrived promptly at the scene to control the situation and investigate the cause of the explosion. Two suspects, Jelil Ali and Muzzakir, were severely injured in the incident and have been rushed to Dibrugarh hospital for urgent medical care.

Additionally, authorities also uncovered a large oil storage chamber hidden beneath a partially constructed RCC house near the illegal warehouse. This discovery has raised concerns over the extent of illegal crude oil operations in the region.

Jelil Ali, a known cattle thief and key figure in illegal activities, was previously arrested in 2023 by the Bokakhat police. The current incident has renewed focus on cracking down on illegal oil smuggling networks. However, authorities have yet to release an official statement on the cause of the explosion. An investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, the Langkashi Police in Tinsukia district earlier in February, after a hot chase, intercepted a Tata Yodha vehicle bearing number AS 02 CC 7389 and seized 12 barrels of pilfered crude oil near Makum and nabbed 2 persons identified as Pranab Gohain and Amarjyoti Neog of Barekuri. According to Dhruba Jyoti Sarma, Officer-in-Charge of Langkhasi PS, the captured vehicle carrying the crude oil was coming from Dhulijan near Makum.
