Assam: Massive Fire Breaks Out at Dibrugarh’s Cancer Centre

GUWAHATI: In the early hours of Wednesday morning, a big fire broke out at the cancer centre in Dibrugarh after an electric transformer caught fire.

According to reports, the incident happened on June 7 at around 4 am near the hospital's electric transformer. The hospital building houses the highly advanced indoor type dry transformer. There may have been a transformer short circuit.

Firemen arrived quickly and put out the fire. So yet, no injuries have been recorded.

The Assam Cancer Care Foundation is in charge of overseeing the cancer hospital that is situated on the Assam Medical College Campus.

On April 28, 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated it in the presence of Ratan Tata and many other dignitaries.

In the year 2022, former Tata Sons chairman Ratan Tata and Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated seven cutting-edge cancer facilities in Assam. In addition, seven new cancer institutes in Assam had their foundations established by PM Modi and Tata.

The Assam Medical College in the Dibrugarh district was visited by the prime minister. He then gave the country a dedication speech at the Dibrugarh Cancer Hospital. In addition, at a public ceremony held at Dibrugarh's Khanikar ground, he dedicated six other cancer hospitals to the nation in the towns of Kokrajhar, Barpeta, Darrang, Tezpur, Lakhimpur, and Jorhat.

Additionally, he laid the foundation stone for seven additional new cancer hospitals in Golaghat, Dhubri, Nalbari, Goalpara, Nagaon, Sivasagar, and Tinsukia.

In April, a fire erupted at a building located on the grounds of the Gauhati Medical College Hospital in the city.

Information indicates that the pathology unit on the first floor of the ancient building complex is where the fire started.

Fire brigades were called to the area, and they were able to put out the fire before it could spread.

Following the fire, both the hospital staff and the patients were in an anxious state.
