Silchar : Laishram Kamalbabu Singh, a 56-year-old Meitei person was found missing since November 25 from Imphal West. It had triggered tension in Cachar. Kamalbabu, a resident of Gossaipur in Udharbond worked as a casual construction labourer at a military station in Leimakhong in West Imphal. On Monday he went to his workplace from his rented house at Loitang Khunou village in Imphal West but did not reach the military station. His mobile phone was found switched off since Monday evening, informed his wife Bela Rani Singha. A missing report was filed with Singjamei police station in Imphal West. Bela Rani, on the other hand, filed an FIR with the Cachar police suspecting that her husband had been kidnapped by the Kuki miscreants. The Cachar SP Nomal Mahatta had already made contact with the Manipur police.

The Leimakhong military station, just 16 km from capital Imphal was surrounded by Kuki Zo tribal areas. Many Meiteis had fled away from the village following the recent ethics clashes in Manipur.

Meanwhile, the army and the Manipur police had intensified search operation. On the other hand, a good number of Meiteis from Loitang Khunou had come out in the street to find out the missing person. This had triggered a fresh bout of tension in the riot-hit state. The Cachar police too had been reportedly maintaining close vigil in the Lakhipur area which had good number of both Kuki and Meitei people.
