GOALPARA: Assam Cabinet Minister Ashok Singhal held a video conference to review the progress of the Orunodoi scheme in Goalpara district. The meeting also discussed adding new eligible beneficiaries to the scheme.
The meeting was attended by Tankeswar Rabha, the CEM of the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council, the Deputy Commissioner of Goalpara, and other district officials. The Orunodoi scheme helps eligible families by providing financial assistance to improve their living standards.
Minister Ashok Singhal expressed his commitment to improving the lives of the people in Goalpara through the scheme. He also emphasized including more deserving families in the scheme. The district officials assured the Minister that they would work together to ensure the scheme’s success in the area.
Last month, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that strict action will be taken against 684 government employees who unlawfully availed benefits under the Orunodoi scheme. He confirmed that the individuals have been identified, and the government will soon initiate action.
In December 2024, the state government issued a directive requiring government employees and their dependent family members receiving Orunodoi benefits to opt out of the scheme by December 24, 2024, or face disciplinary action.
The notification, issued by the Finance Department, clarified exclusion criteria for the scheme, which includes government employees, pensioners, and specific workers like teachers, ASHA workers, and Gaon Pradhans.
The government discovered that some individuals from these categories were still availing the benefits, violating the guidelines.
