Assam: Minor Girl Drowns In Dulani River During Family Picnic In Bongaigaon

BIJNI: A devastating incident in Bijni, Chirang, on Sunday left the local community in deep mourning. Barbie Basumatary, who was four years old, drowned in the Dulani River while having a picnic with her family to celebrate her birthday.

She lived in No. 1 Bhetagaon and attended Joungma Residential Bodo Medium Senior Secondary School.

The birthday party was organized by the riverbank in Moutara, Bongaigaon. Barbie, however, disappeared during the party. The child could not be located despite a desperate search. The terrible news surfaced the next day. Barbie's body was found floating in the river. Gerukabari Outpost police officers arrived on the spot quickly, recovered the body, and sent it to Bongaigaon for a post-mortem.

Barbie's family and the community as a whole are very devastated by her premature death. The loss of Ashok Basumatary's daughter, who lived in Kumarsali, Bijni, has left the area in mourning.

Meanwhile, earlier last month, Amit Chauhan, a 14-year-old kid, perished in the Brahmaputra River. At around 1:30 pm, the kid, who lived in the Birubari neighbourhood, hand gone for a bath with a friend.

Amit reportedly had his school bag and other belongings with him when the powerful river currents abruptly carried him away. A search was immediately initiated once the alarm was raised.

To save the child, teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were sent in. Later that day, Amit's body was found in Guwahati, close to Sukreswar Ghat.
