

MANGALDAI: The number of incidents of robbery and theft has been a major area of concern across the state of Assam. In a recent incident, robbers sacked the valuables from a Durga Puja celebration after the festival concluded.
The incident took place a day after Dashami, that is on Wednesday in the Pandal of the Uttar Mangaldai Sarbojanin Durga Puja Mandap. Two miscreants robbed several valuable items from the premises on which the puja was celebrated. They stole several pieces of valuable equipment and utensils made from the premises including those made from Brass and Bell Metal.
Under the efforts of the local people and the committee members, the miscreants were caught red-handed with the loot after the crime. They were later identified as Altaf Hussain and Sariful from the Kanaichuba locality of Nagarbanhi. During the police investigation and questioning, they were also able to recover narcotics and syringes from the arrested individuals.
Despite the mentioning by the police department that the necessary action has been initiated by the authorities, there has been no respite for the people from these incidents. The local people of the district have questioned the ability of the Biswanath Police to handle the situation and demanded that they take ample steps to ensure the protection of the people. They also mentioned that the robbers often commit crimes when people leave their homes to attend to their daily affairs like schools and offices or late at night when everyone is sleeping.
Another incident of robbery took place in the district where the robbers took benefit of no one being at home and robbed the place of all its belongings with monetary value. A rented accommodation in the Kochgoan locality of Biswanath. It was informed that the robbers broke the lock and entered the premises of the residence and robbed the belongings inside the house. Valuables including jewellery worth Rs 200000 and Rs 15000 in cash.
