MORIGAON: In a significant operation, Morigaon Police successfully intercepted a truck transporting cattle illegally, acting on intelligence inputs. The vehicle, bearing registration number AS 15 AC 9256, was en route from Moirabari to Silchar via Morigaon when it was stopped by law enforcement officials.
According to police sources, the truck was carrying around 32 cattle in violation of regulations. The authorities have taken the truck driver, handyman, and another individual into custody for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation into the smuggling network. This seizure is a significant blow to the illicit cattle trade in the region.
In another similar incident, a truck was intercepted by officers on the Jorabat Link Road last year in March. This bust took place as part of their usual patrol check. The truck bearing registration number UP 21CN 2107 seemed suspicious.
During a thorough check, officers found 28 live cattle and one that had passed away, all illegally onboard. This discovery led officials to ask for the necessary legal papers and a vet health certificate for the cattle. But the driver and his two helpers couldn't provide these.
Meanwhile, during an operation last year in April, law enforcement personnel from Guwahati, Assam, foiled a bid to illegally transport 20 cattle to Meghalaya. This interception took place at the Jorabat checkpoint. The checkpoint is a key junction bordering Assam and Meghalaya.
