TINSUKIA: Thousands of people gathered in Tupsinga village to bid farewell to renowned folk performer Rajib Sadiya in Tinsukia's Sadiya region. To pay their respects, mourners from all across Assam arrived early at his residence near the Kundil River. His funeral (Adya Shraddha) was conducted with full religious rituals, and the sounds of traditional Gayan-Bayan filled the air.

Rajib Sadiya’s sudden death on January 13 shocked the cultural community. The tragedy began the day before when he collapsed during a performance in Phillobari, Tinsukia. Spectators were stunned as he was quickly taken to Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh.

Doctors identified several health issues, including low blood pressure, a cardiac condition, and a possible neck injury, but despite efforts, he passed away the next day.

Rajib Sadiya’s passing is a huge loss to Assamese folk music. Known for his deep connection with the people, he captivated audiences with his talent. His contributions to the folk music scene were unmatched, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who loved his work. As Assam mourns, the memory of Rajib Sadiya’s artistry remains etched in the minds of his many admirers.

On January 19, a tribute program for popular singer Rajib Sadiya was organized by Asomiya Yuva Mancha (AYM) Demow town committee. Leaders and locals lit earthen lamps, candles, and incense sticks in front of his photo, praying for his soul’s peace. Asomiya Yuva Mancha leaders from central and district committees attended the event.
