Assam: MP Gaurav Gogoi attends Congress candidates’ programme

DEMOW: For the upcoming Panchayat polls, Congress-nominated candidates of 95 No. Demow constituency had an exchange of opinions programme in Demow Jyoti Bishnu Cultural Building today where Gaurav Gogoi, Jorhat Lok Sabha MP, was present, who was given a warm welcome by the Indian National Congress party workers.

In the programme, Ajay Kumar Gogoi, General Secretary of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, gave the welcome speech. The Assam Congress candidates of Demow for Panchayat polls were called onto the stage where they introduced themselves.

A one-minute silence was observed by the party workers for the Betbari Gaon Panchayat candidate Jadumoni Gogoi who died today. MP Gaurav Gogoi condoled the demise of Jadumoni Gogoi.

He said that everybody here was ready for the elections. He addressed the representatives of Anchalik Panchayat and candidates of Zilla Parishad, and expressed gratitude for the hard work done by the party workers and congratulated them. He said that in the present situation, he saw that the people were looking for the Congress party.

He said that wherever he went, whether Guwahati, Udalguri, Jorhat, and every other place, the people said that in the next Assembly polls, they want Parivartan (Change).

Later talking to the media here, Gaurav Gogoi alleged that he has been informed that the local BJP MLAs were telling the Congress candidates to withdraw their Panchayat polls nominations within today. Gogoi challenged the BJP and said that if they had courage, then they should keep aside the police force and contest in the Panchayat polls. In the programme, Dambaru Tao, President of Demow Block Congress Committee, Girin Phukan, President of the newly-formed Block Congress, Anshuman Boruah, President of the District Yuba Congress, NSUI, Yuba Congress, Mahila Congress, Block Congress leaders, and Congress party workers were present.
