Major blow to Congress: Key party functionaries join BJP

DHEKIAJULI: In a significant political development, Jeevan Darjee, General Secretary of the Doomdooma Mandal Congress, Secretary of the Dhekiajuli Rural Block Mandal, and the Congress-nominated candidate for the Panchayat member post of the Doomdooma Gaon Panchayat, and several other Congress members joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday.

The induction took place at the MLA Seva Kendra in Bhotpara, Dhekiajuli, in the presence of Assam Cabinet Minister and local MLA Ashok Singhal.

This move is seen as a substantial setback for the Congress party in the Dhekiajuli and Borsola constituencies, highlighting the shifting political dynamics ahead of the upcoming Panchayat elections.

Darjee’s decision to switch allegiance underscores the growing influence of the BJP in Assam, particularly in constituencies like Dhekiajuli.
