SILCHAR: The mysterious death of a local youth, Nirmal Namasudra, near the Indo-Bangla border in Amtala area of Kinnorkhal, Katigorah, has triggered widespread public outrage and protests. The incident occurred on Friday night and led to massive demonstrations in front of the Katigorah police station on Saturday.

According to locals, 30-year-old Namasudra was allegedly picked up and brutally assaulted by BSF jawans while he was found loitering near the border. He reportedly sustained severe injuries and was taken to Katigorah Model Hospital by the jawans, without informing his family. As his condition worsened, he was referred to Silchar Medical College and Hospital but died en route.

Angry residents gathered in large numbers and staged a protest outside the Katigorah police station, demanding justice and strict action against the jawans involved. The protesters also gheraoed the police station, accusing the BSF of regularly harassing local residents.

Circle Officer Dr. Robert Tulor addressed the crowd, urging them to submit their grievances in writing so that he could escalate the matter to higher authorities.
