Assam: Nagaon district-level sports meet concludes at Nurul Amin Stadium

NAGAON: The district-level sports meet organized by the Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), Nagaon, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, concluded successfully at the Nurul Amin Stadium here in Nagaon on Sunday.

 The sports meet, which was attended by over 100 players from five cluster development blocks in the district, featured various events, including volleyball, kabaddi, long jump, and badminton. In the men’s volleyball event, the Juria Cluster Development Block team emerged as the champion, while the Barhampur Cluster Development Block team secured the runners-up position. In the women’s kabaddi event, the Khagarijan Cluster Development Block team won the first prize, while the Barhampur Cluster Development Block team secured the runners-up position.

 In the individual events, Biki Deka from the Khagarijan Cluster Development Block won the first position in the long jump event, while Mayur Krishna Bhuyan from the Khagarijan Cluster Development Block secured the first position in the badminton event.

In the women’s 100-meter dash event, Karishma Karmakar from the Barhampur Cluster Development Block secured the first position and in tug of war, Taosin Sayera, Rajashri Bordoloi, and Jerin Begum from the Barhampur Cluster Development Block secured the first three ranks respectively.

The prizes were distributed by distinguished guests, including Tapan Kumar Das, Samir Hazarika, Ohiduj Zaman, PC Barua, Kumar Kamal Keot, Fakrul Islam, Meena Bhattacharya, Chandra B Das, and Syed Zaman Khan.

The inaugural function was attended by Tapan Kumar Das as the chief guest, along with former players Manjula Laskar, Anil Das, social worker Kallol Dutta, Abu Sadik Kabir, and Mohammad Sahil Ahmed.

The players who secured positions in the district-level sports meet will participate in the state-level competition to be held in Guwahati, said Vikash Chandra Pradhan, District Youth Officer, NYK.
