NAGAON: A review meeting was held on February 13, 2025, chaired by District Commissioner of Nagaon, Narendra Kumar Shah, IAS, to discuss about the district's involvement in the 'Jhumoir Binandini' event, scheduled for February 24, 2025, at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati.

The meeting was attended by Nagaon SP Swapnanil Deka, APS; ADCs Pankaj Kumar Nagbonshi and Sauvik Bhuyan; DTO Gautam Kumar Das; as well as tea garden managers and master trainers from the district.

The tea garden managers were instructed to ensure the live streaming of the event in all tea gardens to allow widespread participation.

Recently, over 3,471 Jhumoir dancers from upper Assam gathered at the Khanikar playground for an extended rehearsal ahead of the "Jhumoir Binandini" event in Guwahati on February 24.

Organized by the state's cultural affairs department, the event aims to showcase the Jhumoir dance, a vital part of the tea community’s cultural heritage, on a global stage.

The rehearsal saw participation from 8,000 youths across Assam, with 1,632 dancers from Dibrugarh, 1,100 from Tinsukia, 544 from Charaideo, 131 from Lakhimpur, and 64 from Dhemaji.

The performers, dressed in traditional attire, presented a vibrant display of unity and spirit in their synchronized dance moves, supported by the beats of Madal, Dhol, Taal, and Flute.

State ministers Jogen Mohan, Prasanta Phukan, and Rupesh Gowala were present at the rehearsal, emphasizing the importance of highlighting Assam’s tea community culture. Anjali Munda, a 20-year-old dancer from Charaideo, expressed her excitement to perform before PM Modi and a global audience.
