KOKRAJHAR: The National Girl Child Day, 2025 was observed today with great enthusiasm at the field of Nehru Vocational High School, Gossainichina in Kokrajhar. The event was organized by SANKALP: Hub for Empowerment of Women, WCD, Dotma ICDS Project, Kokrajhar, in collaboration with the education department, health department, and District Legal Services Authority (DLSA). The event marked the 10th anniversary celebration of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme and aimed to promote awareness and empowerment of adolescent girls through various activities.
The programme was inaugurated by the DC, Kokrajhar, Masanda M. Pertin, in the presence of the ADC Kabita Deka, Additional SP, DTO, and representatives from DLSA, ASRLM, and the Indian Postal Service.
A range of initiatives were undertaken during the programme to address the health, hygiene, and empowerment of girls. Health-focused activities included anaemia screening and dental check-ups for adolescent girls, alongside the distribution of sanitary pads to promote menstrual hygiene. Additionally, an Aadhar enrolment drive, supported by the Indian Postal Service, Formation of the Kishori Sevika Group and an awareness session on Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, was held.
Furthermore, a vibrant display of self-help group (SHG) products under the Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission (ASRLM) showcased organic vegetables, mushroom products, traditional Bodo attire, and local food items. Awareness materials related to Mission Shakti components and helpline numbers were also exhibited. A special session on Menstrual Hygiene Management, accompanied by a screening of the video "Period & Kamor Katha," was conducted to educate students of Nehru Vocational High School, Gossainichina, on menstrual health and hygiene.
