The primary objective of the celebration was to foster scientific curiosity among students. Dr Bhim Prasad Sharma captivated the audience with his comprehensive lecture on the discovery and significance of gravitational waves. He began by explaining the theoretical foundations of Einstein’s General Theory of Relativity and how gravitational waves, ripples in spacetime caused by violent astrophysical processes, were first detected in 2015, marking a breakthrough in modern physics. Throughout his talk, Dr Sharma elaborated on the various methods used to detect gravitational waves, including the advanced Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO). He also discussed the implications of this discovery on our understanding of the universe, offering exciting insights into how gravitational waves can be used to study black holes and other cosmic phenomena. The talk was well-received by students and faculties who actively participated in the event. Dr Sharma has also conducted a wonderful session on mathematical puzzles and the students were actively engaged in this session.
The programme was inaugurated by Dr Chinta Mani Sharma, Principal, Biswanath College, who emphasized the importance of scientific education and research in shaping the future of the nation.
