DIPHU: During the 76th Republic Day celebrations, Dr. Tuliram Ronghang, Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), announced the opening of a new engineering college in Sangtihidi, also known as Balipathar, by the end of the year. The proposed college will be located in the Surupathar Constituency in Assam's Eastern Karbi Anglong.
The announcement was made at the Government School Playground in Diphu, where the crowd, including students, teachers, and local residents, showed great excitement.
This new engineering college will provide local youth with the opportunity to pursue quality technical education, helping to shape the future of the region. The initiative highlights the KAAC’s dedication to improving education and fostering development in Karbi Anglong.
Earlier this month, the District Council Court (DCC) in Karbi Anglong was officially inaugurated by CEM Tuliram Ronghang. The court has been established to handle disputes involving tribal communities within the KAAC area.
CEM Ronghang explained that the construction of the DCC building started in 2005, and he honored the contributions of former KAAC Executive Member Elwin Teron and former MLA Dr. Dharamsing Teron for initiating the project.
The court will address issues such as adultery, theft, marriage laws, and property disputes, making justice more accessible to the local tribal population.
Additionally, Ronghang announced plans for the establishment of a village police force in KAAC, which has already received approval from Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The court's opening ceremony was attended by notable figures, including KAAC Chairman Raju Tisso, MP Amarsing Tisso, and Karbi traditional king Long Ronghang. MP Tisso emphasized that local tribal disputes can now be resolved without the need to approach higher courts.
The DCC was formed under the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution and the Mikir Hills Autonomous District Administration of Justice Rule, 1954. The court will handle civil cases such as marriage laws and land disputes, with criminal cases requiring the Governor's approval for trials. The court's staff includes Judge Sarthe Ronghi and other judicial officers.
