Assam: New SOP Not Coming Today, Likely to be Announced Tomorrow

GUWAHATI: As Assam Government said that a fresh COVID standard operating procedure (SOP) would be coming today, it has not yet come. However, it is likely to be announced tomorrow.

With a recovery rate of 94.56%, Kamrup (M) has recorded 146 cases with 20 deaths.

With the COVID-19 cases in different districts keeps on being dismal, a significant concern stays on the capital city as Guwahati is viewed as the doorway toward the northeast as well as other parts of Assam. People from various backgrounds go to the capital city whether looking for jobs or other travel-related issues, the city never fails to rest in the COVID time too.

Also, it would be worth seeing whether the inter-district movement begins to move back and how Guwahati adjusts to the diminishing number of COVID cases, as government reports recommend, locale like Golaghat, Biswanath, Jorhat, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Sonitpur among others. At present, Intra-locale development of transports is permitted with a 50 percent seating limit.

Additionally, the state government has forced a time limit from 5:00 PM until 5:00 AM to limit the traffic just as individual movement. In any case, with the appearance of the third wave of COVID-19 on the radar, it would be an exceptionally significant and overwhelming task for the administration to come up with a full-confirmation intend to deal with the circumstance like the second wave.

While addressing the media, CM Sarma said that apart from Golaghat and Jorhat, COVID cases were also reported from Lakhimpur, Sivasagar, and Dibrugarh districts.

On the other hand, the Bar Council of Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sikkim has submitted a representation to the Assam Chief Secretary (CS) requesting to modify the SOPs.

The Bar Council has requested the Chief Secretary to pass an order directing the appropriate authority not to cause 'harassment' to any advocate and not to take professional information from any advocate. The Bar Council has underlined that there should be no timeline restriction for the movement of advocates. Further, the Bar Council urged the Chief Secretary to add a clarification that an advocate is an 'officer of the court'. The Bar Council also requested to withdraw the restriction of odd-even rule for vehicles of advocates, and allow inter-district movement of advocates to discharge their professional duties.
