Assam: Noted litterateur Bijit Kumar Bhattacharjee dies at 83

SILCHAR: Noted litterateur Bijit Kumar Bhattacharjee breathed his last at a Kolkata hospital on Wednesday after a prolonged renal disease. Bhattacharjee, 83, who retired as a professor of physics in S S College, Hailakandi left behind his wife Shikha Bhattacharjee and one daughter and a son.

Bijit babu earned fame as poet in the realm of Bengali poetry. For last 55 years he had been publishing a little magazine named ‘Sahitya’ from Hailakandi. Despite his ill health as he had to transplant both of his kidneys in 2000 and later he was diagnosed with liver cancer, not a single copy of publication was missed. His Shikha Bhattacharjee supplemented his physical absence due to his ill health in publishing ‘Sahitya’, a very high standard literary magazine.
