NAGAON: Lalit Chandra Dutta, a retired engineer, social worker, and litterateur, passed away at the age of 84 at a private hospital in Nagaon on Thursday here. Dutta, who was residing at Fauzdaripatty in Nagaon, had a long and distinguished career in the Irrigation Department of the Assam Government, serving as an Additional Chief Engineer before his retirement.
Dutta was known for his dedication and efficiency as a government official, earning him the respect of his colleagues and the public. Beyond his professional life, he was deeply involved in various social and cultural activities in Nagaon.
Lalit Chandra Dutta was a former president of Nagaon Kala Mandir, Nagaon Senior Citizens’ Association, and Nagaon District Pensioners’ Association. Dutta was also a literary enthusiast and had authored several books.
The news of his demise sent shockwaves through the Nagaon, with various organizations and individuals paying tribute to him. Local MLA Rupak Sarma expressed deep condolences, describing Dutta as a compassionate individual whose demise is an irreparable loss to the social fabric of the small town.
Dr Sarat Borkatoki, President of Nagaon Zila Xahitya Xabha, remembered Dutta as a skilled organizer, litterateur, and humanitarian. Other notable figures, including former minister Girindra Kumar Baruah, former MLA Dr Durlav Chamua, and various cultural and literary organizations, also paid their respects.
Lalit Chandra Dutta’s demise has left a void in the social and cultural landscape of Nagaon. He is survived by two sons and several family members, having lost his wife over two years ago.
