DHUBRI: A colourful cultural programme was organised by a socio-cultural organization, Nrityangan, to celebrate Assamese and Bengali Rongali Bihu in Dhubri with pomp and gaiety on Saturday. The entire cultural programme was held on a vessel anchored on the north bank of the Brahmaputra River in Dhubri town against the scenic backdrop of the mighty Brahmaputra.
The objective for organizing the cultural programme on the vessel was to showcase the aesthetic beauty of Dhubri and send a clear message to the state government to include Dhubri in the tourist map of Assam and promote the tourism industry here with its heritage legacy and sites.
This cultural programme is a fusion of two cultures and began with the lighting of the lamp. Renowned musician Nanda Neogi performed the music. Dance instructors of Nrityangan, respectively Poonam Sutradhar, Paulami Pal and Saurav Mandal, performed graceful Rabindra Nritya (dance), and the students of Nrityangan, Babita Kumari and Shreyasi Das, performed Bihu dance.
A prominent Dhunuchi dancer, Arvind Chakraborty, was felicitated while Rabindra nritya “Dhanilo Amritabani” was staged under the direction of Marmit Chowdhury and Arpita Acharya. The entire programme was anchored by Marmita Chowdhury, and prominent dancer Manasi Debi directed the Shivam Kalakendra Bihu dance.
