Assam: NSS, PG unit of DU distributes prizes for poster making competition

DIBRUGARH: NSS PG Unit, Dibrugarh University (DU), in collaboration with Department of Life Sciences, Dibrugarh University, and Green Education Foundation Assam (GEFA) organized the prize distribution ceremony of the poster making and photography competition held on April 22 on the occasion of World Earth Day.

The inaugural speech of the event was delivered by Samiran Bhattacharya, NSS Volunteer, and a member of GEFA. The meeting was presided over by Dr Munmi Borkataky, Dr Minakshi Puzari, and Dr Ratul Nath, Asst Professors, Department of Life Sciences.

The esteemed guests were felicitated by Snigdha Sarmah, Department Secretary, Department of Life Sciences, with a ‘Phulam Gamucha.’

An overwhelming and insightful speech was delivered by Dr Munmi Borkataky on the significance of the day and the need of awareness amongst the public to protect Mother Earth from anthropogenic destruction and to conserve nature and its resources.

The rest of the programme was hosted by Jitu Gohain, Department Representative, Department of Life Sciences. The programme was also attended by Mridupawan Kachari and Miss Barnisha Saikia, student NSS coordinators, Department of Life Sciences, who ensured the smooth functioning of the event.

This was followed by the distribution of the prizes and certificates among the participants. A total of 16 participants participated in the competition. The winners of the Poster making competition were Purvashri Das (1st- Group A), Suprankshi Chakraborty (2nd- Group A), Koel Dey (3rd- Group A), Nilima Chutia (1st- Group B), Misha Singh (2nd- Group B) and Khusbu Kumari Thakur (3rd- Group B) of Graham Bazar Girls High School, Little Flower School, St. Mary’s H.S. School, Dibrugarh University (Center for Performing Arts), Dibrugarh University (Dept of Life Sciences), Dibru College (Dept Of Botany) respectively, and the winners of the Photography competition were Poly Borah (1st), Rupam Paul (2nd), and Kaushik Saikia (3rd), of Dibrugarh University (Department of Life Sciences), DHSK College (Dept Of Botany), and Dibrugarh University (Dept of  Pharmaceutical Sciences) respectively. Also, participation certificates were provided to all other participants.

With this, the programme successfully came to an end with the participants showing enthusiasm and eagerness to take part in more such events.
