Assam: Oil India Limited Headquarters At Duliajan Under Major Cyber Attack

GUWAHATI: The registered headquarters of OIL (Oil Indian Limited) company which is located in Assam's Duliajan is purportedly under a major cyber attack.

This came to light on Tuesday 12 April after an OIL spokesperson, Tridiv Hazakira informed about the issues they are facing with computers.

Hazarika said that the company has shut down all its IT systems and computer at the office after witnessing certain disturbances with the systems.

According to reports computers and IT systems have been closed since Monday 11 April when the employees came to know that 3 to 4 computers were hit by a virus.

As of now no computer at the headquarter office has an internet connection. A malware designed to encrypt files is likely to have attacked the OIL computers on Sunday 10 April as per sources.

Meanwhile, experts are undertaking steps to resolve the issue to prevent any loss of data said the spokesperson on Tuesday.

He added that the concerned officials were forced to withdraw all the computer systems in the office from the LAN connection after the matter of virus affecting the system came to their knowledge.

The IT (Information Technology) department in the company is yet to ascertain the cause of the damage to the computers.

The spokesperson also informed that the company is continuously making efforts to solve the issue at the earliest. Debugging is going on at present to detect and remove the existing errors from the software.

It may be mentioned that this is not the first time that OIL is facing such issues of risk with computers and its data as earlier several times the company came across these problems.

However, according to the spokesperson Tridiv Hazakira, this time it looks like a major IT-related crisis that cannot be resolved soon as it will surely take time.

In taking action over the matter the OIL Company has filed an FIR at the Duliajan Sadar Police Station on Tuesday.
